CM/ECF Training

April 21, 2015

The United States District Court for the Western District of New York will offer CM/ECF training to attorneys and their staff.  Sessions will run 60-90 minutes with demonstration, hands-on training, and Q&A discussion.  Topics include case opening procedures, filing various documents, and maintaining accounts.

Attorney Account Update

April 15, 2015

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York is updating it's records of attorney information.  This action is being performed to update and improve the accuracy of our attorney information.  This update also includes requests for information that will help the court enhance its pro bono program.

The court is asking all attorneys to complete the survey request accessible via the link below.  All attorneys must complete the survey no later than the close of business on May 15, 2015.  Attorneys who fail to complete the survey by that time will have their ECF account disabled until such time the survey is completed.  Should you have any questions, please contact the Office of the Clerk (716-551-1700).

Attention CJA Panel Attorneys in the Western District of New York

The United States District Court for the Western District of New York will be implementing the new national CJA eVoucher Payment System effective May 1, 2015, in conjunction withthe 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.  A notice has been posted to our public website describing the system and identifying new training initiatives.  For further developments, please keep checking the website at:

80 New Citizens Join National Celebration of Constitution and Citizenship Day in September 17th Naturalization Ceremony at Historic Manhattan Courthouse

Please be advised that on September 17, 2014 the United States Court of Appeals will join other federal courts nationwide in a historic coast-to-coast celebration of Constitution Day and National Citizenship Day by hosting a Naturalization Ceremony for 80 immigrants at the historic Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse in downtown Manhattan.

Citizens in the Western District of New York  may receive various forms of false communication (scams) by phone or email. A recent scam involves jury forms with official-looking bar codes sent by email that ask for personal information such as  date of birth, mother's maiden name, etc. For more information about jury scams, click here.

District Court Miscellaneous Fee Schedule Increase

Effective May 1, 2013, a $50.00 administrative fee will be added to the cost of filing a civil action.  This fee does not apply to persons granted in forma pauperis status under 28 USC § 1915.

New Policy Regarding Receipts

Notice of Increase to Pro Hac Vice Fee

September 24, 2012

Effective October 1, 2012, the United States District Court for the Western District of New York is increasing the pro hac vice attorney admission fee to $150.00 in order to supplement the fund used to pay pro bono counsel expenses.

Change to District Court Fee Schedule

June 1, 2012

The Judicial Conference approved a minor change to the miscellaneous fee schedule for the District Courts.  Effective June 1, 2012, the Document Exemplification Fee will increase to $21.00.
